We are honored to host guest speaker - Retired Colonel Dan Semsel

United States Air Force - 25 years active service

PROGRAM INFORMATION

All Veterans please plan on joining us for our Veteran's Assembly in the High School Gym.  Community Members are also welcome to attend. 

High School Students will join with Veterans and Community Members as Principal Stallings greets the crowd to introduce our guest speaker.

Our choirs will sing and the FGHS Band will play the service hymns for each branch of the military as those Veterans attending stand to be honored. 

Following the event Veteran honorees are invited to join us for a chili lunch in the school cafeteria.

Veterans: If you have not already done so, please send (e-mail or bring by) a photo of you in uniform and if possible provide service dates, rank achieved and other special information/recognitions before Nov. 3rd to Lisa Bernet at school so we can include this information in our PowerPoint presentation of honorees.


About our honored guest speaker:

Colonel Dan Semsel retired from the United States Air Force in 2013 after 25 years active service.  He currently works for the Ohio Department of Veterans Services helping companies recruit and retain veterans as employees. 

Colonel Semsel is a veteran of Operations DESERT STORM, SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM.   He received the Joint Service Commendation Medal for Valor in Iraq and the Bronze Star in Afghanistan.

Colonel Semsel’s career took him through 12 duty stations in the United States and overseas with memorable assignments in Hawaii, North Dakota, and Missouri as personal highlights.  He was a first responder at the Pentagon on 9/11.

On the side, Dan is an avid runner and Marathon Maniac, having completed 67 marathons and 28 ultramarathons.  He is a five time qualifier for the Western States Endurance Run, a 100 mile trail race in Squaw Valley California.  He is also a certified USA Track and Field Coach who leads the 4Seasons Training Team in Kettering, Ohio.

Dan attended Ohio University, and is a proud Bobcat who bleeds Green and White.  Dan and his wife, Kim, have two opinionated and artistically gifted daughters who have their father wrapped around their fingers.  His oldest, Natalie Palomo, is the Fair Grove Band Director
