The Fair Grove marching band received a ranking of 2nd place in their preliminary division at Reed Springs this past week. This is the first time in 5 years that the band has made it into finals. In the finals division the team received 7th place. Fair Grove marched on Saturday October 14th with all 43 of it’s members.
The Eagles competed in the class A division. The high school band director, Mrs. Palomo, commented, “I feel the competition went extremely well. We worked really hard to get there, and it payed off in our results and judges comments.” The team has been preparing throughout the summer and during school by having early morning practices 4 days a week. Drumline and colorguard also have had extra practices on top of that to make sure the look and sound of the performance is perfected. Kelsey Thompson, Senior band member, says, “I feel that the band performed more together at this tournament than we have before.”
Fair Grove marched to the show “Geometrics,” by Luke McMillan. Overall there were 23 bands that competed at Reed Springs. The Eagles faced lots of local schools, including their rivals Strafford. Mrs. Palomo stated, “I am proud of all the kids, but Gracie Rowden as our drum major really worked especially hard to improve between the last competition to now. Our drumline and colorguard also put in a lot of extra work.” The band will be working on basic fundamentals such as steps and timing before the next tournament.
The last competition of the season for the team will be held at UCM for Festival of Champions on October 28th. This will be the marching band’s last tournament of the 2017 season. After that concert season begins, then the Eagles first concert will be on December 12th.
